In March of 2011, the spectacle of the Fukushima Disaster and clean-up dominated the news and the sight of men and woman in personal protective equipment trying to mitigate the devastation left an indelible mark on my psyche. It seemed that everywhere I looked there were white suits, goggles and nitrate gloves. I began collecting images from the internet , many of them low resolution journalistic shots. I began to see them as Contemporary Giotto characters in a passion play of catastrophe, government lies and puerile efforts to clean up. Below are images from the series most of the paintings are 30×40″.
